THE SECOND TARAS SHEVCHENKO NATIONAL UNIVERSITY OF KYIV
Please join us for the Second Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv Mediation Tournament.
The event will be held on November 12-16, 2014 in Kyiv, Ukraine.
The main reasons why you should attend:
The tournament introduces students to mediation and peacemaking, which is becoming the primary means to resolving legal disputes in much of the world.
The tournament is different from all other mediation tournaments because (1) students participate not only as attorneys/clients but also as mediators, and (2) three days of training are provided to students in caucus and conference mediation and attorney/client advocacy. With this training, students with little or no exposure to mediation can participate in the tournament and feel comfortable doing so.
The mediators providing the training are some of the top mediators in theUnited States, some having completed over 2000 mediations.
The tournament is low key and designed to encourage students to share ideas and experiences with other students inEurope. It does, however, provide recognition to those students who have excelled in mediation skills.
A stipend of $1000 will be provided to the top team in the tournament to attend one of the followingcompetitions: The 14th Annual International Law School Mediation Championships in London (the UK) on February 18-21, 2015 or The International Law School Mediation Championships in Des-Moines (Iowa, the US) on March, 18-21, 2015.
The last year's Kyiv Mediation Tournament was an exciting event for both national and foreign participants, bringing them to a new level of dispute resolution understanding and practice.
Law schools are invited to register their teams for competition (up to 2 teams with 3 students per team). Schools would be responsible for their travel and meals. Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv offers the teams to enjoy free accomodation in a student hotel.
The dealdile for application is October, 25.
We look forward to seeing you in Kyiv!
