The Faculty of Law of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv is pleased to announce the International Summer School “Legal Aspects of Environmental Protection and Sustainable Development. Local Governance, Land and Energy Conservation and Development: U.S. and European Perspectives”.
The International Summer School will be held on 19-27th of July, 2014 in the capital of Ukraine, beautiful Kyiv, at one of the most prestigious Ukrainian universities – Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv.
The Summer School is devoted to the legal aspects of numerous issues of great importance to Ukraine now – energy supply (including shale gas extraction), local governance and the environment.
The one-week program is designed for students with a basic knowledge of Constitutional, Environmental and Land Law, having a good command in spoken and written English.
The program includes lectures delivered by professors and legal practitioners from Ukraine, Great Britain, and the United States and off-site learning (e.g., visits to the public bodies of Ukraine related to the Program’s content). The lectures will cover, in particular, the following issues: environmental human rights, the role of local government in sustainable development, basic overview of U.S. legal system, environmental law and policy, European standards of sustainable rural development, the use of innovative technologies in environmental protection and economic development, evolving energy sustainability initiatives, energy practice and policy, and economic use of contaminated land and property.
There will also besocial activities and cultural events (e.g., excursions to historical and cultural sites) designed to familiarize students with Kyiv as well as to build strong professional relationships and a sense of community.

We offer free accommodations, meals and participation in social activities and cultural events are included in the Program.
The deadline for applications is 10th of May 2014.
The participants will be chosen by the Organizational Committee of the International Summer School. The selected applicants will be informed no later than 20th of June 2014.
We highly encourage early application, as enrollment is limited to a restricted number of participants.
